Weekend Recap!

This past weekend was a jam-packed, fun and unforgettable myriad of festivities. While I still wish I captured more pictures of moments & people (you're gonna be like, more pictures?!), here is a selection of a few things we did, divvied up in chapters.

Chapter 1 - traveling home

I spent Thursday morning at the post office, packing and doing other important things like getting my nails done - loving this color!

And then I caught up on my guilty pleasure, gossip mags. The train ride felt never-ending - we somehow ended up in the quiet car with some not-so-pleasant folk - but! ...we finally made it. We sprinted from the train and through the rain (like my little rhyme?) to our favorite chicken wings restaurant in our college town (nothing comparable in this big city) and caught up with my parents.

^^^These were in my room...
Coming home is always such a treat - little things like this are everywhere.
That mama of mine makes everything special!

^^^breakfast spread.

The next day, Patrick & I had lunch with my dad in WV and then headed with my mom to see my sis-in-law and meet her little man. My sister & her boys joined us, too!

Chapter 2 - meeting my nephew, Oliver

and - justlikethat - I fell in love.

(and then I melted.)

^^^baby toes!

so teeny-tiny!

^^^with his Baba.

...already missing this peanut.

He's showing me his itty bity hands!

Stay little, okay?
(handshake to seal our pact.)

We stopped by to see my brother where he was working. He's extra-smiley these days which I love.

^^^our view on the way back to Virginia.

Chapter 3 - my nephew, Christian, graduates!

It rained all morning and we thought the graduation was going to be moved inside, but the skies cleared so they took their chances...and the second all the graduates filed in their seats, the sun started to shine. It was amazing, really.

Congrats, Christian!!!!!
We were determined to scream the loudest when they called his name.
...which isn't a hard feat considering the size of our crew :)

^^^proud fam!
...just missing his older sister who left the day before for her summer job. Patrick & I thankfully got to see her the night we arrived so I could give her a much-needed squeeze and her birthday present. She turns 20 this week...yes, 20!

^^^proud grandparents.

So excited for him.
In other news, I feel short.

^^^with my stepdad.

^^^Patrick and my "big" sis...what you can't see is how much he's crouching for this photo.

We had a fun graduation party with family & friends at my brother's house. They're moving soon (in fact, their realtor showed their house while we were at graduation - talk about a lot going on!) so it was especially nice to gather at their beautiful home with everyone.

Chapter 4 - meeting my Godson, Stowe

After the party, my parents drove us about an hour and a half to our final stop of our trip. We met up with my girlfriend/first NYC roomie/and mama to four, including my Godson who I have tried twice to meet before but my plans were thwarted by weather-related problems. ...not this time!

^^^How cute is he?!

He crawled on my lap, facing me, only after I showed him how he could talk to Siri on my phone. And I'm pretty sure he said hello back even though it was a grunted version :)

Patrick was determined to make Stowe like him better by bribing him with cookies. Cheater! ;)

If only I had a video of my friend leaning over trying to show Patrick where the emergency brake was. (something out of a sitcom!)

Chapter 5 - my 10-year high school reunion

^^^my girls.

it was so nice having Patrick there, too.

^^^NYC ladies!

^^^the newly engaged couple I mentioned here!

oh and this (^^^) happened... :)

^^^ look at this little snack tray in our room!
We stayed with my friend's parents who are just as cute as they can be.

^^^future illustration models,
Cricket & Pippa.
They're white goldens which I've never seen before - so pretty!

Chapter 6 - back to NYC

I had plans to watch Dexter and organize computer files, but instead I read Ellen's book in one sitting and took approximately seven cat naps. Ohhh, it sure was needed.

And then Patrick snapped this gem (^^^) in Penn Station. Lookin' REAL cute, right? Ahem.

Watch out, New Yawk, I'm baaack.

New Nephew!

The highlight of my weekend was - without a doubt - the arrival of my precious nephew, Oliver.

...check out that mohawk!

Oliver Brian was born in the wee hours of the morning on May 26th (24 hours after labor started - my poor sis-in-law!). He weighed between 7 & 8 pounds and measured 20 inches long. He's perfect. Oliver is my oldest brother's first son, my ninth nephew, & the fourth nephew with a birthday in May! (Thank goodness for birthday calendars, right?)

It was torture not being at the hospital with everyone, and I'm pretty sure I drove them crazy with my countless inquisitive texts. Any updates? What's happening? Will you send me a picture of the room? What does the doctor look like? What are you doing? How many inches is she dilated? I mean centimeters! (They're never going to let that last one go, by the way.)  I knew the fam was starting to feel delirious when my mom sent me pictures of my sister & other brother pretending they were in labor in the next room :)

My mom called me shouting, "He's here! He's here! 8 pounds!" but my uncontrollable shooting-out-of-my-eyeballs tears didn't hit me until my brother texted me that first picture...

Everyone is safe & sound at home; I've heard his big sister is loving her new role :) Patrick & I get to meet the little peanut in less than two weeks! I can't want to kiss those puffy cheeks and breathe in that sweet baby smell. Oh Oliver, we're so glad you're here. xoxo, Aunt Ginny

*The Bauble Bar pop-up store in Meatpacking was giving away free jewelry this weekend!
I knowww. Bananas!

Email from Mom

Ladies & gentlemen, my mother kept my teeth.
(Tooth Fairy my a$$!)

Mom, what am I supposed to do when I have a house one day and take my baby things with me?
Oh hi husband, we have to find a spot to put my rotted baby teeth.
Wait, I knooow. I'll make a necklace out of them. You can borrow it :)
...I teased her on the phone last night.

In other news, I love her emails.

Christmas, Part 1

Hello there!
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday with your loved ones! I'm back in the city after Christmas with my family. I can't even tell you how good it was to be home and around so many people I love. It was so relaxing and needed - just wish it didn't go by as fast as it did. I feel like we hurry and hustle and anticipate and poof! it's over...yes?

here are a few snapshots from my time there ::

my parents' cozy loft ~
LOVE this nail color ~
you know you're on vacation when you spend 10 minutes shaking a snow globe.
The day after I got home, our family went to the local mission and cooked / served breakfast for over 50 men, women & children. Even though we brought 12 pounds of bacon (!), my brother had to sprint to the store to pick up more if that gives you an idea of how much food we prepared. We made it a point to not only serve food, but also sit and talk with the people. It was the highlight of my trip; i'm so glad we did it.
whisking lessons with my niece :)
I drew a picture of my brother, Jon, as a little boy for a surprise gift.
Seeing his face when he opened it? Priceless.
We both just stood in the kitchen and cried while the rest of the family teased us.
We're an emotional bunch!
a gift for my nephew due in May - his first outfit! My brother, Chris (his dad), was in
the Ninja Turtle movie and played a foot soldier so I just had to design this :)
Needless to say, this is my new favorite plate.
we woke up to snow on Christmas Eve!!
my dad & I had a really fun dinner together that night.

On Christmas morning, I heard a "ho, ho, ho" at my door...
yes...!
...a little gift for my mom. I suppose I should admit that we watched the entire set of
Anne of Green Gables/Avonlea while I was home. Another confession? Gilbert Blythe makes my knees weak. Oh, and I also might have received a set of the DVDs for Xmas, including the "continuing story" sequel. Ohhhhh, Patrickkkk...I know what we can watch after season 2 of Homelanddd! ;)

Here are a couple of the amazing things I received ~
Can't WAIT to use this for art projects!
new phone!
The best part is that Patrick got the same phone. No, his does not have a polka dot / calligraphy case ;) Our messages go through so quickly, though, and now we can Face Time when we're apart.
our ornament collection might be tiny, but I think we're basically covered now...

I am so jealous of the "man cave" at my brother's house...I would never leave!

Lauren & Suz, I think I know where our next
Anne of Green Gables marathon needs to happen... ;)
{pssst! my niece posted my sister-in-law's recipe for peanut butter fudge - it's seriously THE BEST fudge i've ever had...I look forward to it every Christmas.}

in other news, it's always a little sad when Christmas is over...right, Louie?

Little did I know that evening when I Skyped with relatives in Ohio,
that I'd be on the TV! :)
miss you all!

a special quote ~

feeling over red & green, I had to sport some neon.

our back walkway - more snow!
we were actually on our way yesterday to finally meet my Godson and had to turn around because the roads were so icy... :( i was so disappointed! if you remember, i had plans to visit him that were cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy. silly weather keeps ruining everything! at least i'll get to see his parents very soon :)
we were on the road bright and early this morning before I caught my train...

hello, Manhattan!
As sad as I am to leave home and my family,
it's never dull returning to this busy little island.
But now that I'm back? Guess who leaves at the crack of dawn tomorrow...

I'm off to Christmas, Part 2, with Patrick's family!

Talk to you soon :)

until next time,

g
