Market in McCarren

During my one break from working on art homework all weekend (to go to the always exhilarating post office...*sigh*), I stumbled upon a street fair around the corner from my apartment and had myself a little heyday browsing through the unique goods. The weather couldn't have possibly been more gorgeous. Musicians lined the streets, the smell of corn on the cob and Nutella crepes filled the air, all the neighborhood dogs were out to play and everyone just seemed in an exceptionally happy mood.

It was definitely an i-love-where-i-live kind of moment.

Now that spring has officially "sprung", the street fairs and markets will be happening all over the city. This Saturday, May 1st, will be the first day of this year's market in Brooklyn's McCarren Park, a large outdoor seasonal market hosting independent artists and designers.

According to Artist & Fleas' website, the market will be located "along the ballfields and tennis court fence that runs along Bedford Avenue north of N. 12th Street" and will be open from 11AM to 6PM. Their website even displays the scheduled vendors in the following categories: accessories, art & photography, artist & designer market, beauty & health, clothing & design, crafts & handmade, food, jewelry, kids, misc., vintage & vintage inspired.

Click here to see photos from past Artist & Fleas events.

...just an idea for a fun outside activity for this weekend. Although it's currently a gloomylicious Monday, the weather man is thankfully predicting 73 degrees and ☼ for Saturday!

The Heat is On

Nope, I'm not talking about some competitive streak I'm going through.

Nope, I'm not talking about "heat" within my relationship. (although I will say that I am going to find out where da gold at in Mobiiiiile! wink.)

I am literally saying that the heat is on.....in my apartment.

Since when did 60 degree weather call for heat?!
It is not December. It is APRIL.
Why did it take a over a month of absence to just come back and burn my a$$?

No, seriously, I discovered its re-establishment by backing up into the hot water pipe in my toilet room. (!)

Living in NYC, you forfeit control over a few things such as: who gets to stand too close to you, who sees your laundry, AND who controls your apartment's temperature.

Thus, I'm off to spend the rest of the day outside since it has to be 20 degrees cooler out there.

I leave you with some Louis.  He makes everything better.

Happy weekend!

Spring Cleaning Step 1: Donate Books!

I received Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop "SEE" newsletter this morning and it was all about children's books. Nothing like a list of recommendations to peruse for inspiration to brighten my morning!

Included in the newsletter was a tidbit about an event going on in Manhattan this Saturday, April 10th. ReadThis and The Center for Fiction are joining together in an attempt to collect 5,000 book donations for children in need, pre-K through 12th grade, in NYC schools. Writers like Elizabeth Gilbert, Rick Moody, Kurt Andersen, Adam Haslett, Martha McPhee, Sam Lipsyte, Jamaica Kincaid, Scott Westerfeld, Natalie Standiford, Justine Larbalestier and even Cecily von Ziegesar (Gossip Girl) will also be participating in panel discussions and workshops for both children and adults. The event will run from 11am until 5pm at 17 East 47th Street. For more information, check out their website.

Mondays

MONDAYS ARE SO FABULOUS AND FUN AND I LOVE THEM AND I WISH EVERY DAY WAS A MONDAY BECAUSE I'M SUCH A POSITIVE PERSON.

..................who am I kidding?

Mondays stink.

Here's a video that reflects how I feel each and every Monday morning when my alarm goes off.

I feel your pain, pup, I feel your pain.
